The First Entry: Aloha
Good evening, friends and family. Thanks for coming to see my blog! I’m so so excited to get this ball rolling! I assume most of you who are reading this have already heard about my plans to start a blog. I have way too many words to say, all the time, and not enough ears to listen to me. So I’m hoping that if I can type them out and throw them onto the internet, at least I’ll feel better without bugging anyone who doesn’t want to be bothered. It’s a win/win. What more could you want? And I’m hoping it’ll be a good virtual diary of sorts for myself as I transition into the next part of my life. Sounds cheesy, but I think I’ll appreciate being able to look back at it in a few years and see how my perspectives have changed. So here’s the lightning-quick rundown about me, in case you’ve been living under a rock/are somehow genuinely new here.
My name is Alicia, I’m 22 years old (technically, I’m 21, I turn 22 in about 2 hours), I’m an Aries, my favorite colors are pink and yellow, I’m a firstie (senior) at the US Naval Academy, and I’m going to be a surface warfare officer. That means that after I (virtually) graduate in May, I get to go to some more schooling in San Diego, and then I’m moving to Japan to meet up with my ship and learn how to do ship things! I’d like to one day be a teacher, and my favorite animal is the panda (I have 37 stuffed ones!). If I had to eat one thing for the rest of my life, I think I’d have pizza because you can put tons of toppings on pizza so I wouldn’t get sick of eating the same thing everyday!
One thing you might be wondering, actually, is how I got the idea of “Dog vs World.” Easy - it’s part of my nickname! My name, Alicia, is three syllables, so something of a mouthful, and not very easy to abbreviate. I’ve picked up “Leesh” as my preferred nickname over the years. In high school, when the finsta trend was a thing, I decided I wanted one. I needed a clever username that included my name but was just far enough into left field to be obviously not me. Leesh sounds a lot like leash… What do we think when we think leash? Dogs! A dog leash! So I settled into the username of @dogleash (it still exists to this day, six years later…It was actually because of it that I thought of maybe starting a blog to filter my thoughts instead of blasting them out for everyone to see/read/hear). For a long time, it was just that - a username. But slowly, it grew on me, and I began to jokingly refer to myself as “dogleash” either on my account, or in person when I did something silly. It stuck around, as nicknames do. And I’m not sure it’s at all ironic or a joke anymore…So that’s how I became Dogleash, which frequently gets shortened even more to Dog. I am just a lil puppy in a big big world, trying to figure out how to be an adult…Dog VS world, indeed.
That’s all for now. Toodles!
